Why isn't my wall art framed?!

Why isn't my wall art framed?!

Why isn't your wall art framed? An excellent and deserving question to be asked. Cost is a big part as to why not. Shipping expense is a lot higher for a picture that is framed. Also, the frames available are quite minimalist and may not be to your liking. We feel it is critical to start with a high-quality piece of wall art from 12 Were Chosen.

What is meant by high quality? Always go to printing and paper. With our products they are giclee printed on a premium matte paper. What does that mean? Well first of all the printer uses 12 colors not the 4 you may be familiar with in home inkjet printers. More colors mean better definition and shading. A better picture.

The paper is a heavy stock at 200 gsm (grams per square meter). This overall combination of printing and paper are more expensive but deliver a higher quality reprint of the original. Definitely an appreciated benefit.

Shipping of a framed print is much more expensive not just due to weight but to size.  anywhere from $40 to $70 via UPS. Unframed prints are rolled and placed in tubes except the smaller prints like 8"x10" leading to $5 to $8. So, the combination of size and weight make framed prints much more expensive.

Once you have received your print we recommend you go to your nearby Hobby Lobby and to their custom framing department. Now you can pick a frame out of a selection of 400 on average and its one that you really want. It fits your room's overall decor that you want. If you want a matte, you can choose one from an enormous selection opening the door to double layer matting that accentuates the picture while also being a part of your room.

Not only is the frame important but so is the matte. What color or colors if you want to have a double thickness matting. This is where knowing your picture's color palette can be quite helpful. It's quite interesting that pictures are made up of a 5-7 color palette. Artists don't start out with a ton of colors on their palette but first choose a few colors for their work. Of course, they may mix colors on their palette but there is about 5-7ss that they start with.

Knowing those colors can be great help in choosing your matte color. colorpaletted.com will generate an image's palette for free. Let's take for example the following image:

Crucifixion

Five-color palette for the Crucifixion artwork: yellow, blue, light yellow, orange, and red

Above is an example of an image and its palette. This can greatly help you with matte color selections. All part of giving you the choice of frame and matte.

Shipping and product quality are big factors in overall price. Do we strive for a net profit? If you still want to save your pennies you can pick out a modest frame for your picture size.
